This past Saturday, VANAS hosted an inspiring webinar introducing our newest faculty member, Edwin Poon, an accomplished Supervising and Series Director with over 20 years of experience in the animation industry. Attendees were treated to a warm welcome from Calvin Leduc, Head of Faculty, followed by an engaging presentation on Edwin’s career highlights, teaching expertise, and his vision for the 2D and Short Film programs at VANAS.

Calvin kicked off the session by sharing his excitement about Edwin joining VANAS. He highlighted Edwin’s impressive portfolio and his passion for storytelling, animation, and mentoring the next generation of animators.

Meet Edwin Poon: Industry Veteran and Visionary Educator

Edwin introduced himself with a brief overview of his career, emphasizing his journey through various roles in the animation industry.

Career Highlights:

• Series Director for an upcoming Disney Junior/Disney+ series launching in January 2025.
• Directed TV shows such as Bossy Bear, Tom and Jerry in New York, The Hollow, and My Little Pony.
• Served as Supervising Director on the Warner Bros. feature film Teen Titans Go! To the Movies.

Passion for Teaching

Beyond his industry accolades, Edwin shared his enthusiasm for teaching. With experience at VANAS, Capilano University, and Vancouver Film School, he has helped countless students develop their skills and break into the animation industry.

Current and Future Projects

Edwin provided a sneak peek into his ongoing short film project and teased the upcoming Disney Junior/Disney+ series, giving attendees a behind-the-scenes look at his creative process.
